Grafana

Connecting Grafana Cloud lets an agent read your dashboards, metrics, and alert rules, so it can confirm a change behaved in production.

Before you start

You need a Grafana Cloud stack with Grafana Assistant available, and any Assistant terms accepted. Your account needs the Assistant Cloud MCP User role or the grafana-assistant-app.cloud-mcp:access permission. Editor and above have it by default. Grafana's own guide is Grafana Cloud MCP server.

There is no key to create. You authorize the connection by signing in to Grafana in your browser.

Connect it

  1. In SetForth, open your project, then Integrations.
  2. Choose Grafana.
  3. Leave the server URL as https://mcp.grafana.com/mcp. It is the same for every stack.
  4. Choose Connect. You go to Grafana, enter your stack URL if asked, sign in, and approve the access.
  5. Grafana sends you back to SetForth and the integration is connected.

This is the hosted Grafana Cloud MCP server. The open source Grafana MCP server runs on your own machine and is a different thing: to use that one, run it somewhere SetForth can reach and connect it as a custom connector.

What agents can check

Connecting an observability tool adds two follow-ups:

  • Hold latency budget blocks a merge when latency for the endpoints you name exceeds the budget you set. You choose the percentile and the budget in milliseconds.
  • No new alerts fails a task when its release fires a monitor that was quiet before. You choose which monitors count and the minimum severity.

You set the observation window when you add the follow-up during planning.

Who the connection belongs to

The connection carries the access of whoever authorized it. Its page in SetForth shows who that was. If they leave or lose access in Grafana, the integration stops working and Reconnect hands it to someone else.
